Today is a little different than my normal Happiness Monday posts but I wanted to share this with you because maybe it might encourage you to step outside the box in beauty or in life.
So I received the BITE Lip Pencil to give a try complimentary from Influenster, I have been all about playing with lip colour lately so I was really excited to have the opportunity to give it a try. I was told I would be getting a darker and a lighter shade which is great because I have been playing with neutral pinks and darker pinks, reds and burgundy shades. When my BITE Lip Pencil & Lipstick arrived the colours didn’t necessarily have me jumping for joy. Like I said above I tend to gravitate to pinks, dark or light they are still shades of pink. What I got was a neutral shade called honeycomb and a dark brown shade called whiskey.
Keeping an open mind I decided to give them both a try. I even dressed myself to match the lip colour. The honeycomb I paired with a white thermal shirt and my blush sweater vest from K-Lee Boutique. The lesson I learned is that even though I was hesitant about the colour, and if I was in the store I would have easily passed over the colour it is a shade that I really love and will wear very regularly. It is subtle but you can see that it is there and I feel like it just completes your makeup look and pulls it all together even if it is a very natural.
For the Whiskey shade, that was another lesson learned. Not all colours are a good fit for every person. This one I styled myself in a darker fitted bodycon dress and a dramatic statement necklace. I pictured this shade to be a great going out on a night out, kind of dramatic so I wanted to compliment that kind of a look. I’m not sure exactly what I didn’t like about this shade, maybe I’m just a bit of natural girl at heart and can’t pull off the moody dramatic look, maybe my skintone isn’t tanned or pale enough. I’m really not 100% sure why this colour to me just didn’t work but I did go out of my comfort zone and gave it a try. It may not have been the most successful of colours for me but at least when I go to get makeup next time I won’t be completely derailed from the darker colours but will go for a slightly less dramatic colour for my skintone.
Ok now to the review part of this post. If you could pick any colour you wanted (psssst… I’ve linked a few of my picks below) the Lip Pencil itself is fabulous! My pet peeve is when you have a lip pencil that doesn’t apply nicely, the pencil is too hard so it doesn’t go onto you lips without some pressure, it applies to thin because it’s so hard and it doesn’t have a lot of pigment. With the BITE Lip Pencil it went onto my lips really nicely and the pencil itself was really creamy so it applied so easily without much pressure. I also used it to fill in my lips entirely before adding the lip stick on top and the pigment was very rich. I will definitely be adding to my BITE collection, for sure more of the honeycomb when this runs out and maybe a few to the colours I’ve shown below.
I hope today’s post has kind of inspired you to go out of your comfort zone and give new things a try. You might be surprised like I was that you end up loving something you were unsure of and you might end up falling in love with a brand you would have never given a chance to before. If you take this out of the beauty realm and apply to this your life you never know what you are capable if you didn’t give yourself a try.
