I was at the grocery store last week, one that I go to regularly, with my husband and children. The cashier knows who I am, always asks how the family is doing which is why she threw me off last week with a comment.
She said that I looked single…
At first I was a bit shocked, I think she realized that and immediately said she knew I was not and mentioned my husband and kids, but just that I looked single. I’m not exactly sure what she meant by her comment but I do think that she didn’t have the words to voice what she thought at the time.
So now I have thought about this for a whole week… I know the comment was meant as a compliment, at least the is how I am taking it. Which brings me back to why I call this post The Sparkly Mom. There is that “mommy style” of yoga pants, pony tails and bare minimum to no makeup, I did it for years. The Sparkly Mom is the one that takes some time for herself. She gives herself permission to have a shower, do her hair, her makeup, wear some jewellery. She doesn’t do this all the time, and she doesn’t get all dolled up every time but she takes the time for her. She takes the time to make herself sparkle. Let’s also note that sparkling comes from within, when you take care of your outside your inside beams.
When I started blogging I really challenged myself to get back to who I was before kids. I am back to loving to take the time to get dressed in the morning, to play with my makeup, shoes, handbags and jewels. It’s something that I have really been doing just for me. I work from home so it really truly is just for me… and maybe a bit for my husband, let’s be real.
I feel like I have stepped into the “Sparkly Mom” personality. I’ll always be a mom but that doesn’t mean that I can’t be stylish, confident and happy with myself on the inside and out. So when I think about her comment I am no longer confused because I really feel like what she was trying to say is that I am a “Sparkly Mom” which makes me smile because what I see and feel on the inside is matching what is on the outside.
Do you feel like a sparkly mom? And what is your best tip to being a sparkly mom?
