Elle’s Closet Boutique & Beauty + GIVEAWAY

This boss babe is such an inspiration of success, empowerment and finding your happiness

Happy Monday Beauties!! I was asked the other day what bloggers and instagramers inspire me… and as much as I love fashion and style my answer was not a single fashion blogger but instead these amazing girl bosses who are rocking their business. I LOVE seeing women in business, women supporting women and how dreams can come true. So I’ve decided to start a series sharing with you some seriously amazing babes in business. Sharing where they started, what was some mountains they needed to climb and where there dreams are taking them. I think it’s super easy to look at where these ladies are now and see it as a huge success but forget the hard work, the stress and financial pressure they were under when they first started their goal. These ladies have overcome, have risen above, had faith when the future looked bleak and are the most caring beautiful and inspiring women I know.

The #ellesbabes of Elle's Closet Boutique

To start off this series I am so proud and privileged to share with you the story of Michelle From Elle’s Coset Boutique & Beauty. I’ve known Michelle for maybe a year now and have always loved her store, the style of clothing in her store, how she runs her Instagram account and how real true and genuine she is. I’ve seen her get on a Facebook live and explain that a product she loved at first fell flat and what she is going to do about it because her customers mean that much to her. I’ve seen her host many VIP events where she celebrates how much she loves and appreciates her customers. I’ve seen how much she loves what she is doing and how much passion she has for it. This is the sign of a true strong women in business rocking it.

I sent Michelle a list of questions and I am so inspired and empowered by her story and her journey. By reading this you know that everyone struggles and everyone has the opportunity to overcome.  Please enjoy!

My business is Elles Closet Boutique &Beauty

I have been in business for 3 years next month!! Crazy, it doesn’t feel like 3 years!

I wanted to start my business simply because I was having fun and it seemed like there was a need for it in our community. I started selling those super soft crazy patterned leggings, I was selling for a company and decided I wanted to try do it on my own. I looked into it and figured out what to do. I had zero training for business or retail. Soon enough ladies were asking me to bring in longer shirts to go with the leggings, then boot socks and scarves and before I knew it I had a store in my basement. I decided to give it a try and open a very small store. It went over well and I kept moving to bigger locations. It’s been so much fun and I have been learning so much every day!

When I very first started this I remember very clearly driving downtown Edmonton with my husband and talking about whether or not I should buy this box of leggings. It was $1200 and after a very scary pregnancy where I was on bed rest and in the hospital for almost 4 months. We were financially tapped. Between food, a private room (so my hubby could stay with me when he was off work) and parking and me not working, it really drained us. So $1200 was a lot of money to risk on something I had no idea if people would even like. We decided to go for it and that day completely changed my life. I started doing legging parties every couple of nights and I was crazy busy!
Signing a lease to actually open the store was terrifying. I was most worried about time away from my daughters. I had always assumed I would be a stay at home mom. That’s what I wanted more than anything. So to suddenly want to open a retail store was terrifying. I remember people telling me you work 24/7 when you own your own business and I thought, oh really? How much can there possibly be to do after hours. How much? ALOT!!!! The work never ends and I was so scared my daughters and husband would resent me. But my husband pushed me and made me realize my daughters would grow up proud of what I have accomplished. They know they are loved, it’s okay to be a mom with dreams. It doesn’t make you less of a mom.

I can’t even count the amount times I thought about giving up. Retail is a hard business. I am lucky to have a pretty amazing support system. My husband is my rock and my biggest cheerleader. He always talks me down and puts things into perspective for me. He believes in me when I don’t and if it weren’t for him, I couldn’t do this.
I also have a fabulous friend that I work with. Kelly, from Beauty kisses by Kelly. She always willing to help lend a hand. She too reminds me of all my accomplishments when all I can think about is how hard everything seems. I’m so lucky to have her in my corner.

I truly think I am in my toughest time right now. I have two small children, a husband that works away and I am trying to grow my business and open a second location. It’s exhausting, I’ve cried more than I can remember. I’m terrified I am neglecting my family when I’m at work and neglecting my work when I’m with my family. Money is always tight and there is never enough. Even when I go to bed at night my brain doesn’t stop. I am a complete perfectionist and I can’t not put 100% into any project I tackle. Which is great for business but also exhausting as a person.
I’m pushing through this by talking out my fears with my husband and trying really hard to just enjoy the ride. I’m a worrier and I’m working so hard at trying to enjoy the process and not just worry about it. I love what I’m doing, I’m having fun and living my dream. So I can’t ruin the experience with fear.

My biggest success is getting to wake up everyday and enjoy going to work. I used to be very unhappy in my career(s) I hated going to work. I realize this is a reality for a good portion of the world and I thank my lucky stars daily that I am so fortunate. It’s hard work but it’s insanely rewarding.

My favourite way to market my business is definitely instagram. I love the community, I love how supportive everyone is! I love seeing the different photos and creativity. It pushes me to think out of the box and try new things.

I felt like I was on the right path when I woke up every day excited! Excited about what I could learn and achieve that day. I felt like that 3 years ago and I still feel like that today, maybe even more so now.

I felt like I had accomplished success when I could afford a big rental space and employees. When companies started approaching me and asking me to carry heir lines. Like I said, I had no experience so when I started out I felt like I had to search for people to let me carry their stuff. Now, they are seeking me out and that is a pretty good feeling.
