I have been on a real dress kick this last year. I love them and I keep adding them. The problem I find is changing the mindset that dresses are only for fancy occasions… And well I don’t know about you but I don’t have a whole lot of fancy occasions to get dressed up for. So to make sure you wear all the dresses in you closest more you need to take them out of the context that you have in your mind they are used for. For example, this dress I love, it makes me feel amazing but I originally bought it to wear for business meetings, I wore it for a baptism, and it would be great with a blazer. But when you add a jean jacket you can dress down your style and make it more casual and good for the everyday. I still paired it with some heels but they this would even look great with wedges, or now that we are getting cooler weather some booties.
By changing the context of where you can wear it and adding a jean jacket you have just given this dress more life. It just reminds me of all those fancy clothes you buy your kids because they are so cute. They wear them for Christmas or a wedding and then they sit in the closet until the next time you pull them out and chances are they don’t fit them anymore… What a waste… It’s not likely you will out grow your clothes but more likely that it will sit in your closet long enough to not be in style anymore. I challenge you to take a look at your wardrobe and see if there is something you have been saving and think of a way to repurpose it so you can wear it more.
